I like it when photographs go wrong. I think this is linked to a deep suspicion about the connection between photography and ‘truth’; so when I see what the camera sees (rather than what I see, or think I see, or hope to see) I’m rather glad to have been pushed outside of the image-making process, if only for a few seconds. Sometimes I am the architect of these ‘errors’ through some distortion of movement or focus or by simply pushing the camera beyond its normal limitations. Sometimes not.
This interest has evolved into a practice research project which investigates the photographic ‘mis-take’. More information on the work so far can be found on the project website here.
